During a recent offshore project for global energy leader PETRONAS, Ocean Infinity successfully delivered real-time seabed data directly to the client’s headquarters. This groundbreaking operation marked a first for the company, eliminating the need for client personnel to be physically present offshore—signifying a major shift from traditional practices.
Reducing the number of personnel offshore allows for the use of smaller vessels, which in turn lowers fuel consumption. “With this smaller vessel it can reduce up to 5,000 litres (of fuel) per day” said Farawahida M Monil, Principal, Geohazards for PETRONAS.
Ocean Infinity’s fleet has been purpose-built to support this approach, operating with a minimal crew onboard while the majority of operations are managed remotely from onshore control centres. Real-time data is streamed directly to client offices, enabling immediate analysis and decision-making without the need for offshore presence.
“This is very critical for the company to make informed decisions, in time, quick and promptly, and this only can be done through the remote operation and transfer of survey data almost in real time”, said Tham Siew Kee, Principal, Geomatics Operations for PETRONAS.
