Defence and Solutions
Building and operating autonomous capabilities for defence, security and government customers.
From concept to capability
We develop and deliver advanced technology for defence, national security and government customers.
Our teams bring together software, systems engineering, autonomy, robotics and operational expertise to solve real-world challenges at sea. From developing new capabilities to supporting live missions, the focus is always the same: creating solutions that work in demanding environments and deliver measurable impact.
How you’ll make an impact
Building the technology
Our engineers develop the software, systems and integrations that enable complex autonomous operations. From software engineering and systems engineering to systems integration, they bring together robotics, sensors, communications and control systems into mission-ready solutions that can operate in demanding real-world environments.
Typical roles: Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Technical Project Managers
Building the vessels
Our teams design, develop and evolve advanced uncrewed vessels and maritime systems.
Working across engineering disciplines, they turn innovative concepts into robust operational platforms, ensuring technology performs reliably at sea and integrates seamlessly into larger mission systems.
Typical roles: Naval Architect, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Electronics Engineer, Platform Engineer, Test & Commissioning Engineer.
Running the operations
Our operations teams put technology into action. Marine operations managers, pilots and mission specialists plan, monitor and execute autonomous operations around the world, supporting defence and security through safe, effective and persistent operations.
Typical roles: Marine Operations Manager, Remote Pilot / USV Pilot, Mission Specialist.
Where you’ll work
Most opportunities within Defence & Solutions are based at our Southampton site, home to our engineering teams, remote operations centre and vessel programmes.
Some operational roles may be based elsewhere in the UK or overseas depending on customer and mission requirements.
Most roles require regular attendance at our Southampton site and are not fully remote positions.
I’m surprised by how quickly decisions are made and how work stretches beyond job titles. You need to embrace ambiguity and learn fast.
I lead engineers developing ship-to-shore communications. I was trusted to design and deploy the best system possible.
You’re contributing to something bigger, with people across the world relying on the systems you support. That gives the work real meaning.
