Green Ship Chemical Engineer -

Ocean Infinity is seeking a Green Ship Chemical Engineer who will be responsible for specifying, developing,  integrating, testing and commissioning high pressure novel fuel systems from tank to power unit that support the reduction or elimination of CO2 and other harmful emissions across the Armada fleet.   The Armada is a fleet of ultra-low emission robotic ships up to 78+m in length, with operational payloads, support infrastructure and trained personnel operating together to satisfy customer’s needs across a range of maritime services world-wide with greater levels of safety, sustainability and reduced environmental impact than traditional alternatives.

The role

The Green Ship Chemical Engineer will have extensive experience in process design, simulation, optimisation and operation. Proven experience in main process equipment specification, balance of plant design and plant development from concept to operation is required. The ability to integrate chemical engineering principles into a systems engineering environment will be highly beneficial.

This position requires a minimum of 10 years’ professional experience, ideally in the oil and gas industry or the field of chemical production, with specific experience of managing ammonia and hydrogen an advantage. Experience or familiarity with the marine industry, as well as a general sense of the offshore environment is beneficial.

The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct assessments of emerging and established chemical process technologies to ascertain their value and applicability to green marine power and propulsion;
  • Design, simulate, verify, commission and test novel marine fuel plant technical demonstrators, working with suppliers and partners as necessary;
  • Contribute to ship wide power and propulsion system design with the role of a chemical engineering specialist with particular focus on green fuel storage, processing and management;
  • Conduct safety and reliability assessments of novel fuel systems and their constituent components in support of the system safety case.


Person Specification:


  • A degree in a chemical engineering or a related technical subject;
  • 10+ years’ engineering experience in chemical engineering field;
  • Proven expertise in chemical process design and development including experience of process simulation and developing PFDs and P&IDs;
  • Proven expertise in chemical process safety management such as HAZOP and HAZID;
  • Experience of planning and carrying out testing, trials, integration and commissioning of chemical plants.



  • Chartered status with a chemical engineering body;
  • Familiarity and experience with the following:
    • plant instrumentation and control system design;
    • modern systems engineering methods;
    • FMEA, FMECA and safety and reliability analysis;
    • ships propulsion, power generation, distribution, and control systems;
    • in ammonia storage and cracking systems;
    • hydrogen and other fuel cell technologies;
    • engineering project planning and time management.



  • Complies with Ocean Infinity management system policies, all OIMS practices, programs, and procedures;
  • Successfully completes required training as identified by OIMS and the management team;
  • Participates in the OIMS by reporting events, attending meetings and workshops, reporting problems, and recommending improvements, and other related activities;
  • Informs an Ocean Infinity Supervisor, Team Lead, or Manager of any unidentified risks, hazards, or system deficiencies in the workplace;
  • Supports Ocean Infinity’s environmental and social goals.
